Personal therapy is one of central aspects of psychotherapy training. Students are required to be in personal therapy throughout the training at Terapia with a UKCP registered psychotherapist.
Students need to attend at last 40 hours during each year of training. This allows for holiday and illness cancellations but facilitates students to meet accreditation requirements.
Terapia provides weekly group supervision for all the required Toddler Observation and clinical work. Students who are conducting clinical work (Second Year) with children are in group supervision provided by Terapia but will need to take one hour per month of additional individual supervision. Students who work with more than five children per week will need to take two sessions per month of additional individual supervision.
Students who have finished any of Terapia’s clinical trainings but have not completed their clinical hours will need to meet the cost of individual supervision. Further supervision may be recommended to students whose workload exceeds the school’s recommended minimum.
On the First Year students are required to take 30 hours of Toddler Observation in a nursery or equally suitable placement. Observation Seminars are an integral part of the Child Psychotherapy Training and allow students to experience changes in the process of child’s development. This experience is vital in preparation for the clinical work with children and adolescents.
Students will have the opportunity to share their experience of observation and explore all the issues arising from their observation. This takes place twice a month in the small core group.
On the Second Year students are required to take a minimum of 200 hours with children and adolescents in Terapia’s approved placement.
There is some written work required for submission which is at a postgraduate academic level of competency.
