Postgraduate Diploma in Child and Adolesent Counselling

Overview

This two year course will take you on a journey of learning, self-discovery and fun.

Theoretical subjects like child developmental psychology, child mental health and child protection are complemented by in-depth process work as well as learning useful therapeutic tools for working with children and adolescents.

You will go away for five days residential training in play therapy and learn elements of music, drama, movement, art therapy and sand tray.

You will spend some time observing a toddler and, equipped with skills, knowledge and new therapeutic skills, you will embark on counselling work with children and teenagers.

In order to apply you need to have done a course in adult counselling skills with Terapia or elsewhere.

The course consists of:

Weekly seminars from 7:00 -9:45 pm

Group supervision for observations and client work is provided fortnightly in the evening seminars.

Seven weekend seminars on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Process work on Saturdays once a term.

In the second year, there is a five-day residential seminar on elements of Play Therapy.

Successful completion of the training consists of 90% attendance, submission of the written work required, supervision assessments, peer, self and tutors’ assessments and passing the final exam.
